The first phase & the thinking behind it
This was a blank new-build garden of just 60 square metres in a heavily overlooked suburban setting. With elevated neighbouring houses, poor drainage, and a high water table, the focus from the outset was on privacy, proportion, and long-term usability. Rather than trying to complete everything at once, the garden was planned in phases. Early structure, raised planting, and carefully aligned focal points were introduced to manage overlooking, improve ground conditions, and make the space feel larger. The result is a low-maintenance, high-impact garden designed to evolve over time rather than peak on day one.
